Dong Hee was born in Taegue, Korea. She received her first MFA from Seoul National University, her second MFA from the University of Kansas and a PhD. from the University of Missouri. She has been exhibiting work internationally since 1977.
Dong Hee was recently awarded a research leave from Konkuk University, Seoul Korea and has been a Visiting Research Scholar at the City University of New York, and an Artist-in-Residence in the Hunter College Ceramics Department, since September, 2003. During the course of her career she has been the recipient of two Fulbright Scholarships as-well-as postings as a resident artist and scholar to: Citi International des Arts, Paris, France; the British Ceramics Society, London, United Kingdom; and Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem, Israel.
Reviews and images of Dong Hee's work have appeared in numerous publications and photos of her work can be found in the classic, Clay and Glazes for the Potter, by Daniel Rhodes, and The Craft and Art of Clay, by Susan Peterson. Her works have been exhibited at the World Ceramic Biennale, Icheon, Korea in 2003 and at the Museum of Oriental Art, Moscow, Russia. Other significant exhibitions include: 20th Century Ceramic Art, National Museum of Taipei, Taiwan; Korean Grand Prize Exhibition, Seoul Metropolitan Museum of Art, Seoul, Korea; Leedy Voulkos Gallery, Kansas City, Missouri; and the Yixing Museum of Art, Yixing, China.
Dong Hee's work is held in a number of public and private collections among which include: Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse, New York; West Virginia Wesleyan College, Buckhannon, West Virginia; Museum of Art and Archeology, University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri; World Ceramic Exposition Foundation, Icheon, Korea; and the University of Oklahoma's Seretean Art Center, Stillwater, Oklahoma. Private collections include: Val Cushing, Wayne Higby, and Ron Kuchta.
