Dong Hee Suh        Dong Hee Suh’s Secret Garden        Dong Hee Suh: A Slice of Paradise
Dong Hee Suh , Gallery 221, New York , Ann Rothman
In the small intimate new gallery 221 comes a powerful show with as much ambition as many shows in larger digs.

Dong Hee Suh\'s \"Garden of Eden\" is just that.  It is a representation of the biblical garden.  Here Dong Hee, an accomplished Korean ceramicist, slices and dices the clay into swaying trees, thriving plants, soaring birds, and finally, Adam and Eve, innocent and naive, prior to the entrance of the serpent.  There is a joyous atmosphere to these rhythmic forms.  They are both architectural and organic.  Each piece relates to the next, but each piece also stands on its own.  Plants, rivers, and trees are all recognizable by their articulate and fluid posture.  No identity is subtle.  Although the forms are abstract, the clues are clear.  Dong Hee\'s interest in abstract art is visible in the animation of her geometric shapes.
